Upgraded 2022 Genesis GV80 range adds six-seat option

More standard equipment, stopping power and options headline updated large luxury SUV line-up

An upgraded 2022 Genesis GV80 line-up has arrived Down Under with a series of rolling spec changes and a new six-seat option that does exactly what it says on the tin, replacing the middle row with two free-standing captain’s chairs.

The six-seat package is available on all variants besides the base 2.5T and costs an extra $13,500 across the range, pricing for which increases slightly across the board for 2022 – just over a year after the all-new large luxury SUV was launched in October 2020 and became a carsales Car of the Year contender.

The segment-first six-seat option for the Korean luxury brand’s flagship SUV adds not only the new chairs, but additional ambient lighting, a fixed rear centre console with wireless phone charger and a pair of 9.2-inch touch-screens with their own audio jacks and USB inputs.

These features are in addition to the existing kit contained within the familiar Luxury Package, which itself gains 18-way power adjustment with Ergo motion for the front passenger and can be had on all versions for an additional $10,500.

Aside from the segment-first seating option, Genesis has also enhanced the standard equipment list of the GV80, which is a five-star safety performer, with the inclusion of 380mm front brake rotors and four-piston callipers (previously limited to the flagship 3.5T AWD).

Other new standard equipment for all MY22 variants includes a new Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) system, rear central locking buttons and ‘recirculation mode plus’ for the climate control, while the second-row cup-holders in five- and seven-seat versions have been moved to the centre armrest alongside additional storage.

In addition, the user experience and graphics for the Augmented Reality navigation map mode have been enhanced, the mirror icon for the Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance-Assist (BCA) system has changed to a triangle, and the steering wheel icon for Lane Following Assist (LFA) has been updated.

The 2022 GV80 is available in 10 exterior paint colours including seven gloss shades and, for Luxury Package variants, a further three optional matte colours ($2000) teamed with matte chrome exterior trims and a chrome grille.

Gloss Barossa Burgundy is new for the GV80, following its popularity on the smaller GV70.

The MY22 additions have driven up Genesis GV80 prices by between $1024-1524 depending on the variant.

For reference, that means the range now kicks off from $92,000 plus on-road costs for the 2.5T and tops out at $109,500 for the 3.5T AWD before any options.

No changes have been made to any of the Genesis GV80’s powertrains, with the familiar 224kW/422Nm turbocharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol, 3.0-litre turbo-diesel straight six and twin-turbo 3.5-litre petrol V6 all carrying over with their respective eight-speed transmissions.

“With a new six-seat Luxury Package and a range of upgrades and refinements, 2022 GV80 continues to deliver unparalleled luxury in a compelling SUV package,” said Genesis Motors Australia country manager Connal Yan.
