The facelifted 2024 Hyundai i30 N high-performance sedan is now entering Australian showrooms, priced higher at $52,000 plus on-road costs but offering even more aggression and higher capabilities than before.
Wearing a new skin and featuring a raft of motorsport-inspired tweaks, the 2024 Hyundai i30 Sedan N (as Hyundai likes to call it) is $1800 more expensive than the pre-facelift version which launched here in late 2021, but will now top 280km/h thanks to a raised speed limiter, making it the fastest Hyundai N model to date.
As before, the flagship i30 is being offered in just one fully-loaded variant, with the only options being a powered sunroof ($2000) and premium paint ($595).
Available colours include the N-only Performance Blue, solid Atlas White, Cyber Grey, Ultimate Red and Intense Blue Metallic, and Ecotronic Grey and Abyss Black Mica.
No changes have been made to the fiery turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that continues to pump out 206kW/392Nm and drive the front wheels via either an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic or six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
Instead of upping the outputs, engineers have instead tweaked the sedan’s chassis and electronics to sharpen the handling.
Key changes include reinforced engine mount membranes, G-bushing, a new rear suspension S/ABS insulator on the rear support, recalibrated adaptive dampers, revised steering gearbox yoke along with a new low-friction universal joint and numerous ESC revisions.
Unsprung weight is saved through the standard fitment of the i30 N hatch’s forged 19-inch alloy wheels, while the braking system has been enhanced via a new thermal protector for the front hoses.
Little has changed in terms of the cabin design, but if you look closely you’ll notice the bigger wireless charging pad and three new USB-C ports scattered about the cabin.
Hyundai’s Bluelink connected services have also been added to the spec sheet as well as Intelligent Speed Limit Assist.
The rest of the equipment list reads the same as before, with highlights including heated and cooled front seats, leather upholstery, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.25-inch infotainment system, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control and smartphone mirroring.
The facelifted i30 N sedan joins the rest of the updated i30 sedan range and is the first of four new N models to launch Down Under this year. It will be followed by the monstrous Hyundai IONIQ 5 N and facelifted versions of the i30 N hatch and smaller i20 N.
