The facelifted 2024 Jeep Gladiator dual-cab ute has made its debut at the Detroit motor show, adopting many of the upgrades seen on the recently updated Jeep Wrangler.
The overhaul includes revised styling with a smaller seven-slot grille, redesigned indicators, new bumpers, fresh tail-lights and seven fresh wheel designs that can be combined with 32- and 33-inch tyres.
Jeep has also deleted the previous truck’s antenna and neatly integrated it into the front windscreen.
Under the bonnet, the 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel found in overseas markets has been dropped, with Jeep now only offering the larger 3.6-litre naturally-aspirated Pentastar V6 that pushes out 213kW and 353Nm of torque.
In the US, the petrol V6 combines with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.
Later on, a 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain is expected, as per Wrangler.
The Gladiator now comes with three underbody bash plates that protect the fuel tank, transfer case and automatic transmission oil pan, while Mojave and Rubicon model grades add steel rock rails as standard.
Two new luxurious grades have been added, Mojave X and Rubicon X, offering buyers Nappa leather power-adjustable seats, an integrated off-road camera, a full-time transfer case and steel bumpers.
Safety has also been enhanced, with all models now coming with front and rear side curtain airbags. Structural changes have also been made to improve side impact crash performance.
Among other updates, the Premium Sun-Rider retractable soft-top is said to now feature far better sound insulation and be more durable than before.
Two new dealer-fit American Expedition Vehicle (AEV) packs have also been launched that add a two-inch (50mm) suspension lift and larger 35-inch all-terrain tyres, while a Level II pack adds even bigger 37-inch rubber than helps to provide up to 16 inches (406mm) of ground clearance.
Inside, there’s a new standard 12.3-inch touch-screen that runs the Stellantis group’s latest Android-based UConnect 5 operating system offering over-the-air updates and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Amazon Alexa is also available as a handy on-board assistant.
The new Gladiator is due to arrive in US dealers before the end of this year, but there’s no word yet on pricing, full spec and arrival times for Australia.
