The Mercedes-Benz EQA and EQB electric SUVs have been given a facelift ahead for the 2024 model year and they’re on track to arrive in local showrooms between April and June next year.
Fitted with a new front-end design reminiscent of the bigger EQE and EQS electric SUVs, the updated small and mid-size SUVs now sport full-width front lighting signatures that work with redesigned grilles and bumpers to enhance their sense of width, while refreshed tail-light graphics sharpen things up at the rear.
Changes inside the cabin, meantime, extend to a new steering wheel with touchpad controls and the latest iteration of the MBUX infotainment system, which offers drivers three display themes and three ‘modes’ of interaction.
Other updates include improved sensor technology for the driver assistance systems, a new reversing camera, an updated lane keep assist system that acts on the steering rather than the ESC system, improved voice control and a new ‘Plug and Charge’ function.
The latter will allow owners to simply plug their vehicles into a compatible charger and walk away without having to authenticate themselves or their vehicle, with the charging process starting and stopping automatically.
Adding to this newfound convenience is a new ‘range monitoring’ function that provides drivers with recommendations on how to best extend the driving range, for example by switching to the Eco drive mode, Eco+ climate control setting or applying a recommended speed limit.
The new function will work in tandem with the slipperier exterior design and lower rolling resistance tyres to extend the EQA 250’s claimed WLTP range out from 540km to 560km, however, no figures have been quoted for the other variants or the EQB, although odds are the improvements will be in the same ballpark.
No changes have been made to any of the EQA or AQB’s powertrain options, which means Australian examples will continue with the same 66.5kWh battery packs and power outputs as the current models.
“With their striking SUV bodies, powerful electric drive and predictive navigation with Electric Intelligence, the two all-electric members of the Mercedes-Benz compact car family have gained many fans,” Mercedes said.
“Now the EQA and EQB are becoming even more attractive to newcomers and those switching to electric vehicles – thanks to fresh looks, numerous efficiency updates and new, useful features.”
Pricing and local specifications for the updated electric SUVs will be released closer to their 2024 release in Australia, where the range currently comprises the EQA 250, EQA 350 4MATIC, EQB 250 and EQB 350 4MATIC.
