Upgraded Tarago won't cause whiplash
Toyota's Tarago is facelifted for 2009 and gains added features, including active front-seat headrestsToyota has announced a revised Tarago range featuring improved specifications and revised styling. All models now come equipped with front-seat active headrests which use inertial movement of the body in a rear-end collision to draw upon a cable linked to the headrest.
The safety aid reduces the gap between the headrest and the back of the head during the impact, thus mitigating whiplash injury to the neck.
Visually, the upgraded Tarago can be identified by different alloy wheel designs and new frontal styling. Tarago GLX variants now run on 17-inch alloy wheels in a seven-spoke design and the V6 Ultima grade features 10-spoke alloys. Toyota has redesigned the headlight cleaner, positioned the radiator grille lower and introduced a revised Toyota corporate badge. Added cooling-air induction at the front aids the automatic transmission fluid cooler.
Tail lights and rear garnishes have been redesigned also and a quasi-spoiler look has been adopted where the tail lights wrap around the quarter panels. A new colour for the 2009 model year is Illusion, a light purple mica metallic replacing the superseded colour, Glacier.
Inside the Tarago, all variants are now fitted with a rear-seat conversation mirror, a revised instrument binnacle with grey metallic colour-coordination, silver-coloured decoration for the instrument panel and a brighter colour of silver decorative trim for the electric window switchgear surround. Switches for the odometer/tripmeter and lighting rheostat are now illuminated and the instrument graphics for the V6 GLX and Ultima variants have been redesigned for easier legibility.
Four-cylinder Tarago variants are now offered in Mid Grey interior trim, while V6 models are now trimmed in a Sandstone colour. Complementing the Sandstone-colour trim is a yellow/brown mock-eucalyptus wood veneer for the V6 GLX and Ultima variants.
Door-ajar/auto-close side doors are new standard features in the Tarago GLi and GLX variants. Hill start Assist Control is now standard for four-cylinder GLX and Ultima variants, plus all V6 variants. This feature is now available to Tarago GLi buyers also, as part of an option pack.
