With the prospects of a right-hand-drive version of GM's new Camaro still on the agenda at GM Holden, US motoring writers have broadly endorsed the latest model with enthusiastic first-time drive impressions.
GM Holden forwarded the odd snippet from US motoring magazines such as Motor Trend, Car and Driver, Road and Track and Popular Mechanics, all of which were highly positive.
To quote Motor Trend: "Chevy's new two-door is... very good. Very, very, very good. At the risk of inducing insider trading, now would be a good time to sell your Mustang stock." And, "It delivers. The look is there. The performance is there. The value is there. And, oh yes, so is the 'wow'."
And Car and Driver: "The ride quality of the Camaro doesn't even rate a comparison with the lesser Mustang, and it makes the Challenger's handling feel plodding."
Road and Track: "Stunning styling interpretation of modern Camaro. We rate the new Camaro as great news for Americans."
Popular Mechanics said: "It's hard to argue with this car's performance, style or refinement," while automobilemag.com claimed the Camaro "essentially blows away its competition."
The Motor Trend reaction is particularly interesting because that magazine is edited by expatriate Angus MacKenzie who probably still knows a thing or two about the tastes of Australian car buyers.
