V12 Pagani Huayra R set to be best-sounding car ever

Naturally-aspirated V12 hypercar's soundtrack previewed on Instagram and is nothing less than epic

The Pagani Huayra R is set to challenge the Aston Martin Valkyrie for the title of greatest-sounding car of all time, and from our first listen to the Italian contender, the odds are stacked in Pagani's favour.

Thought to harness the power of the legendary Mercedes-AMG- sourced M297 naturally-aspirated 7.3-litre V12, the engine sounds nothing short of an early-1990s Formula 1 car.

Rumoured to produce more than 670kW and rev to 9500rpm, the Huayra R is set to mark the first and only time Pagani will use the high-revving non-turbo V12 – and should be a fitting tribute to the end of Huayra production.

According to rumours, the wild Pagani Huayra R will be a track-only hypercar boasting huge motorsport-inspired aerodynamic treatments that include a massive fixed rear wing, larger diffuser and wind elements normally associated with Le Mans racers.

Unlike the Aston Martin Valkyrie, it's thought the final run of Huayra cars will not be legal to drive on the road, with the Italian hypercar created to be a track-focused toy for its most loyal millionaire fan base.

With the Pagani now well underway to developing a replacement for the Huarya, the Italian firm has announced it has signed a deal to continue to use Mercedes-AMG engines until at least 2026.

You can listen to the Aston's equally incredible-sounding Valkyrie here before judging which is better.
