Chrysler Australia has knocked $4500 off the price of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland by offering it with the 3.6-litre (Pentastar) petrol V6.
That takes to three the number of engine variants for the Overland, flagship of the Grand Cherokee range. But whereas both the 3.0-litre diesel and the 5.7-litre HEMI V8 variants are priced at $69,500, the new variant with the petrol V6 costs just $65,000. There's also a price differentiation between the Pentastar V6 and the other two engines in the mid-range Limited grade also, but the gap there is $5000. Introducing the petrol V6 in the flagship Grand Cherokee provides buyers all the comfort and convenience features of the Grand Cherokee Overland, but without incurring the same premium for the purchase price.
“We listened to our customers, and worked very hard to bring this variant to Australia. We know it is going to be a real crowd pleaser,” said Clyde Campbell, managing director of the Fiat Chrysler Australia group. “At $65,000, it brings all the appointments expected on prestige vehicles well within the reach of a much larger audience.”
The DOHC V6 is all-alloy in construction and develops 210kW/347Nm. At 11.0L/100km in combined-cycle fuel consumption testing it's significantly thirstier than the diesel, but markedly more efficient than the V8. The engine is matched to a five-speed automatic transmission, as it is in the case of other Pentastar-powered Grand Cherokee models (in entry-level Laredo and mid-range Limited grades). Towing capacity is 2268kg.
Standard equipment not available in the petrol V6-powered Grand Cherokee Limited include Nappa leather, heated/ventilated front seats, 16.5cm touchscreen for the Media Centre, QuadraDrive II four-wheel drive system, Blind Spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Path Detection, premium alarm, wood-and-leather upholstery for multifunction steering wheel and sunroof.
