Porsche has announced full details and pricing for its first V8 diesel model, the Cayenne S Diesel, first deliveries of which will take place in Australia next April.
Positioned in the middle of the luxury SUV range at $155,500 plus on-road costs, the new Cayenne variant is $45,000 more expensive than the 3.0-litre V6-powered Cayenne Diesel, which at $110,400 remains $1000 pricier than the range-opening V6 petrol-powered Cayenne ($109,400).
Also priced midway between the V8 petrol-powered Cayenne S ($151,900) and petrol-electric Cayenne S Hybrid ($164,400), the Cayenne S Diesel is powered by an Audi-sourced 4.2-litre twin-turbo diesel V8 that produces no less than 281kW of power and maximum torque of 850Nm.
That’s enough to accelerate the new oil-burning bent eight to 100km/h in just 5.7 seconds and a 252km/h top speed. Thanks to the fitment of the first idle-stop function in a V8 diesel SUV, the Cayenne S Diesel is also able to return combined fuel consumption of 8.3L/100km and CO2 emissions of 218g/km.
Porsche says that combined with a 100-litre fuel tank (standard in Australia), the Cayenne S Diesel – which also offers a hefty 3500kg towing capacity - will offer a total driving range of about 1200km.
The newest Cayenne comes with the same exterior look and hardware as the petrol Cayenne S and therefore features oversized front air inlets with black fins, an upgraded braking package with silver callipers and PTM active all-wheel drive. Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus will be available as an option.
As with the Cayenne Diesel, subtle ‘diesel’ badges grace the front quarter guards, while a ‘Cayenne S’ moniker resides on the tailgate.
