Variety Beach to Bay in April

Off-road 4WDs to be put to the test on six-day Queensland adventure

If you'd like to get an idea of where your off-roader is truly capable of going, the Variety Beach to Bay six-day charity event in April promises to be a good opportunity to find out.

This year's event has been mapped out to cover a wide variety of challenging Queensland hinterland terrain, from sand driving on Fraser Island to traversing the Wild Cattle Creek state forest inland of Coffs Harbour, to exploring the Guy Fawkes River National Park in the Northern Tablelands.

Included in the itinerary is an evening at the historic Woodlands homestead in Marburg, near Ipswich, where a murder mystery night has been arranged. As a wind-up to the six-day event, there will be an exploration of the world heritage listed beaches of Fraser Island.

The Beach to Bay event starts on Saturday, April 2 at the Aunucka Beach Resort in Coffs Harbour, travelling over the next six days through Glenn Innes, Casino, Marburg and Gympie before reaching the final destination at Kingfisher Bay on Fraser Island on Friday, April 8. Participants leave Fraser Island the next day, on Saturday April 9.

The organisers promise the event will be a chance for 4WD owners to test the abilities of their vehicles. Tam Johnson, who is the CEO of Variety – the Children's Charity NSW, says it will provide "a unique opportunity to see what your four wheel drives are really capable of. The emphasis is on good tracks, fabulous scenery, exceptional food, wine and of course, as with all Variety events, fun and entertainment.

"The beauty of Variety's 4WD Adventure is its simplicity, as participants need only to turn the key of their 4WD to be on their way; everything else is organised including food, accommodation and entertainment.

"By being a part of the Variety 4WD Adventure, you're supporting Variety's work in helping Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged and have special needs. Together we can raise $100,000 to provide practical equipment, services and experiences to children in need."

The $6600 entry fee covers the registration of one vehicle and two participants, including set meals, accommodation, nightly Happy Hours and a $3000 tax deductible donation to Variety. Additional crew members will cost $3138 per person, which includes the donation and provision fess.
