Variety Lodge to Lakes 4WD Adventure

If you like to mix your off-roading with a touch of elegance, children’s charity organisation Variety might have just the answer

Fuel up the LandCruiser, pack your best dinner suit and block out the dates between Sunday March 8 to Friday April 13, 2015 – the Variety Lodge to Lakes 4WD Adventure is coming your way.

Calculated as a mixture of serious off-roading and serious hobnobbing, the ‘boutique’ fun-raiser/fundraiser begins at Tony Abbott’s digs at The Lodge in

Canberra and finishes in the Victorian seaside town of Lakes Entrance with a formal, black-tie presentation dinner on the auspicious date of Friday, March 13.

The turn-key event is being organised to attract those with a taste for stylish adventure while mixing in a fund-raising element to inject money into children’s charity Variety.

The event gets under way with a cruise dinner aboard MV Southern Cross on Lake Burley Griffin, after which participants will get a good night’s sleep before setting off next morning en route to Tumbarumba via the Brindabella forest trails.

The route then traverses more forest country on the way to Corryong in north-east Victoria, followed by a 4WD experience in Man From Snowy River country before settling in for the night at the foot of Victoria’s snow country on the Ovens river in Bright.

Then, after negotiating some notorious off-road country including Paddy’s Hill en route to Mount Hotham and a night at Rundell's Alpine Lodge at Dinner Plain, the participants set off to negotiate some challenging terrain, including the Collingwood Spur Track in the Alpine National Park.

An overnight stay in the Gippsland town of Bairnsdale will be followed by a circuit to the final stop at Lakes Entrance and the black-tie presentation dinner.

The organisers promise “hand-picked luxurious resort accommodation” along with food and entertainment for the whole event. Entry is pegged at $6432 for the registration of one vehicle and two participants, including expenses and a donation. Additional crew members will cost an extra $3138 per person to cover the donation and the provision fee.

According to the organisers, the Variety Lodge to Lakes 4WD Adventure is “ideally suited to couples, or anyone wanting to spend quality time with a family or mates. Typically the event brings together people with similar interests and cultivates lifelong friendships and memories.”
