Victoria's registration authority, VicRoads, has announced custom plates for owners of Ford's Mustang, first Australian cutomer deliveries of which begin next week.
According to the release, the plates were designed in-house, but with feedback received from Ford Australia and local Mustang fans. The dimensions are 305mm wide by 155mm high – the same as VicRoads' USA plates range – and the plates are available in two colours: black on white background, or white on black. Current owners can upgrade their plates to the Mustang design for $195, or buy new plates priced at $495.
Ford enthusiasts are already offered FPV and Ford Commemorative plates by VicRoads. The new plates will join the Ford plates range as "a line extension", signalling the intense consumer interest in the new Mustang ahead of its official launch and on-sale date.
Ford Australia has been caught out by demand for the Mustang, with the company's public affairs department unable to cobble together enough press cars for a local launch before the end of the year as planned. The media launch has been pushed back to January now.
VicRoads will release the Mustang plates formally on Wednesday, November 25. More information is available at the web page.
