VIDEO: Audi teases its Lunar Rover quattro

German car-maker teams up with scientists to create vehicle that will re-explore the moon

Audi has teased pictures and released a short film to announce further details for its development of a 21st Century lunar rover for a future space mission.

Collaborating with researcher group 'Part-Time scientists', Audi says it is developing its Lunar quattro to deal with the extreme conditions it will face on the moon's surface.

This has involved its engineers developing what Audi is calling, 'high-performance electronics’.

The lunar Rover will also come with an intelligent all-wheel drive to ensure it doesn't get stuck.

Using advanced new materials and aluminium 3D printing, the unmanned Audi Lunar quattro is said to weigh in at just 30kg.

To prepare it for exploring the barren surface of the moon, engineers will de-camp to an unnamed Middle Eastern desert where the entire mission will be simulated by two prototype rovers.

Set to be launched into space on a Spaceflight Industries mission, the lunar Audi will use its four cameras to take both 3D and 360-degree pictures.
