Bentley has proved its new full-size Bentayga will be the world’s fastest SUV when it is launched next week at the Frankfurt motor show.
As yet unseen without camouflage, the big SUV has been frequently teased but this is the first indication of exactly how fast the big Bentley 4x4 will be.
Shown testing at an industry proving ground in the video, the all-new Bentayga is shown clocking up speeds as high as 301km/h as it covers ground at an alarming rate on the high-speed banking.
If a true indication of the actual speed being covered, the Bentley would be faster than all current high-performance SUVs on sale, including the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S and the Range Rover SVR.
Powered by an all-new twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 offering 410kW and 700Nm the big Bentayga is also expected to sprint from standstill to 100km/h in comfortably less than five seconds and some reports say Bentley’s first-ever SUV could have a top speed even higher than 301km/h.
Later on the most powerful W12 is expected to be joined by a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, a plug-in version and possibly even a diesel engine – all shared with Audi's new Q7, which is built on the same MLB Evo platform.
When it arrives here next year the mould-breaking British wagon is expected to be Australia's most expensive SUV.
