
PSA has released two new videos that preview its all-new pure-electric and plug-in technology.
The first short film shows off the French car-making giant's all-new architecture that will underpin a generation of pure-electric hatchbacks, sedans and small SUVs that will provide for an impressive 450km range.
Developed with Chinese partner Dongfeng, the new underpinnings are based on the company's CMP (Common Modular Platform) and have been created for Peugeot 208 and 308-sized vehicles.
Developed for Peugeot, Citroen and DS vehicles, plus other Chines marques made by Dongfeng, the first pure-electric vehicle will come with 84kW and be powered by 50kWh lithium-ion cells, says the video.
The pure-electric car will also carry a 7kW on-board charger that can give it a 100km range in just 90 minutes. All cars will also come with an ultra-fast charger that gives a 12km range gained for every minute of charge. To charge the cells to 80 per cent, meanwhile, takes just 30 mins.
Total range is claimed to be around 450km for the vehicle that will come as either a hatch, small sedan or SUV.
Four vehicles will initially be based on the new platform and all will be on sale by 2021 in all PSA markets, including Australia, the video suggests.
As well as the next-generation all-electric vehicle, PSA has also explained its future plug-in hybrid vehicles in a second video.
Based on the current EMP2 platform that the Peugeot 308 sits on, the new powertrain combines an 80kW electric motor mounted on the rear axle powered by a 13kWh lithium-ion battery. Up front, another 80kW electric motor is mounted on the front axle and is combined with a petrol-powered engine that can provide anything from 110kW to 150kW.
The video also reveals the the petrol-electric front axle will also channel its power through a new eight-speed automatic gearbox.
All models come with a 60km pure-electric-only range and take just 2.5 hours to fully charge using a fast charger.
PSA says it will introduce seven EMP2-based plug-in hybrids from 2019-2021.
