Silicon Valley-based robotics experts, Knightscope, has released a video of its new K5 security expert that could drastically reduce the likelihood of your car being stolen or broken into in the future.
The five-foot-tall, Dalek-like security robot is said to be equipped with cameras and sensors and roves around carparks 24 hours a day gathering and analysing data.
If it detects a discrepancy in the data gathered (such as stolen number plates or a crime being committed), the “autonomous data machine” automatically alerts the authorities.
What it doesn’t do is attempt to apprehend the thief. Instead, the K5 robot emits an alarm that gets progressively louder to ear-splitting volumes while is takes numerous photographs of the offender in action. Those images are then forwarded onto the police.
According to Knightscope, the K5 is no flight of imagination. A small army of the Dalek-like robots are already on patrol in undisclosed locations in Silicon Valley.
