Koenigsegg has released a video of its new hypercar’s state-of-the-art plug-in petrol hybrid in action.
Using a rolling road, the new Regera is tested from 50km/h up to 350km/h in the static test.
Turn up your volume and you’ll hear the 820kW 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 in action that in the production car will be assisted by three electric motors producing a combined 520kW. Altogether the three engines produce a total of 1100kW/2000Nm.
Instead of a conventional dual-clutch automatic or even a manual transmission, the Regera channels all of its immense power to just the rear wheels using what it calls a direct drive gearbox.
From standstill the Regera uses both electric motors to ‘fill in’ the torque curves before the petrol joins in and takes over, hurtling the hypercar to its estimated 450km/h.
Koenigsegg hasn’t released performance figures yet for the Regera, but according to its makers it’s already calling it the world’s first ever ‘mega car’. Just 80 Regeras will be made.
