VIDEO: New Kia US ad teases fast Soul Turbo
Cute American ad for small hatch reveals performance version of Soul on the way, set to arrive this summerKia USA has subtly teased a new turbocharged version of its quirky Soul hatch in its latest TV ad.
In the closing frames of the new commercial, which features hamsters playing guitars in New York's Central Park (you'll have to watch it for an explanation), the last frame announces a Turbo is coming in 'Winter 2016'.
This has led US magazines, like Car & Driver, to speculate that the Korean car maker is readying a hot-hatch-rivalling version along the lines of the Track'ster concept car from 2012.
If so, the Kia Soul Turbo is likely to come with the 150kW/265Nm version of the 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder that's used in the Hyundai Veloster SR Turbo.
Combined with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, the fast Soul should complete the 0-100km/h sprint in less than 7.0sec and touch a top speed of more than 230km/h.
With aggressive styling and a specific suspension tune, the Kia Soul Turbo is set to go head-to-head with the Nissan Juke NISMO RS that's on sale in Europe.
It's not known yet whether Kia Australia has any plans to import a faster Soul.
Currently, the only model offered to Australian buyers is the 113kW/191Nm 2.0-litre petrol version.
