VIDEO: Porsche Mission E up close and personal

German sports car-maker teases production version of its all-new Tesla-fighting pure-electric car

Porsche has released a video of its ground-breaking new Mission E just days after it was confirmed for production.

The new short film focuses on how the new four-seat, four-door large sedan – previously referred to as the Pajun -- is shaping up and outlines its jaw-dropping design and state-of-the art infotainment system that employs both a virtual dashboard and gesture design.

The video also goes on to show what lies beneath the skin of the zero-emissions sports car, identifying the flat floor of batteries that provides for an ultra-low centre-of-gravity.

Showing two electric motors, the movie demonstrates how the Mission E can be charged by induction using a garage floor-mounted plate or via the new 800-volt Porsche Turbo Charger that plugs into a hidden charging point behind one of the front wheels.

When it was revealed at the Frankfurt motor show last September, Porsche said its pure-electric Tesla Model S fighter would travel 500km between charges and accelerate to 100km/h in just 3.5 seconds, thanks to its two electric motors that combine to produce 440kW.

Charging using the Porsche Turbo Charger takes just 15 minutes for an 80 per cent charge. It’s not known how long wireless charging will take.

Set to be on sale before the end of the decade, the Mission E’s new design language will also be seen on the all-new replacement for Porsche's larger Panamera sedan in 2016.
