Ferrari has released a new video of its latest LaFerrari Aperta being driven at the very limit by its lead F1 driver, Sebastian Vettel.
The short ad, that shows the convertible hypercar drifting on a race circuit, was created to help Ferrari commemorate its 70th anniversary.
Look closely and throughout the short film there are some of the firm’s famous racing cars from Ferrari's illustrious history in the reflection of the new drop-top hypercar.
Sporting ‘70th anniversary' badging, the LaFerrari Aperta was officially revealed at the recent Paris motor show where it was announced Ferrari would only make a limited-run of just 209 cars -- all of which have subsequently been sold.
Like the coupe, the drop-top version of the LaFerrari packs the same 6.3-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine that's boosted by a 120kW electric motor in a Formula 1-style HY-KERS configuration.
Combined, the total petrol-electric hybrid produces 708kW and 700Nm in coupe guise, a factor which will lend the Aperta a 0-100km/h acceleration time of comfortably less than three seconds and 0-200km/h time of less than seven seconds.
The distinguishing difference between coupe and convertible is a carbon-fibre roof panel which is said to enable the same level of torsional rigidity as the regular LaFerrari (which ended production in 2015). Ferrari will offer the Aperta with a soft-top roof or a removable hard-top made of carbon-fibre.
It’s thought each LaFerrari Aperta will set their owners back more than $3 million. However, don’t expect to see one on Australian roads; production is strictly limited to left-hand drive.
