Tesla Motors has released a new ad that demonstrates how the autonomous driving technology available on its Model S could take the strain out of the daily grind.
Released yesterday, the short video shows off the Model S’ new Summon function that turns the car on and drives itself to wherever you’re waiting.
From then on the Tesla is shown auto-steering itself within its lane at highway speeds and even carrying out autonomous lane changes -- something many of its rivals are still incapable of.
Finally the video ends with the Model S self parallel parking.
The new Summon function is already proving controversial in Australia.
Launched along with the most recent Version 7.1 software update for the Model S, the remote auto park facility, controlled by a smartphone, is currently on hold Down Under because of regulatory hurdles.
According to Tesla Motors’ local marketing boss, Heath Walker, the company has applied for “regulatory approval” and is waiting judgement.
It’s not known when, or if, approval will be given and therefore when Summon will be available for Australian Tesla Model S owners to use.
