Volkswagen has teased a new optional Performance Pack for its flagship Golf R.
Unconfirmed for Australia but available soon in European markets, the new upgrades apply to the facelifted Golf R (version 7.5) that was launched earlier this year.
Perhaps confusingly, considering its name, the new optional upgrades do not affect power or torque.
Instead, the facelifted Golf R's 2.0-litre turbo produces the same 228kW (or a rumoured 213kW for Australia's 'hot climate').
That means the 0-100km/h time remains unchanged, at just 4.6 seconds. What does differ is the Golf R's top speed.
Tick the Performance Pack box and VW raises the regular car's 250km/h limiter to 267km/h.
Despite the lack of additional power the Performance Pack (PP) still brings plenty of updates that should lower lap times.
Opt for the PP kit and Volkswagen adds a revised front bumper that's equipped with a pair of air curtains which help fine-tune the air bending around the front wheel arches.
New side skirts also come as standard and help reduce turbulent air flow along the side of the car while, at the rear, engineers have developed a larger rear spoiler and a motorsport-inspired rear diffuser.
Together, the German car maker claims a 20kg increase in downforce at high speed.
A new titanium exhaust system, meanwhile, shaves 7kg off the kerbweight and produces a sportier note in the process.
Tuning the chassis for more enthusiastic fast road driving and occasional track use, the fast PP-equipped Golf R also comes with revised dampers and tweaked steering plus huge 17-inch drilled disks.
New lightweight 19-inch alloys complete the chassis upgrades.
Inside, the Golf R PP comes with leather sport seats and sport carbon-fibre trim.
Pricing has yet to be announced.
