Volvo Trucks has announced it plans to release a video on its official Youtube channel on August 24 that will show it attempt to set a new land speed record for the world's fastest truck.
It's not clear from the teaser video released as part of the build-up to the attempt what speed the specially prepared tractor unit, called the Iron Knight, actually posted.
Running the Volvo Truck 'D13' power unit and I-Shift Dual Clutch transmission modified for the record attempt, Iron Knight has gained from a power boost, raising the standard road-going 12.8-litre straight-six engine’s 275kW/2372Nm to an incredible 1765kW/6000Nm.
Weighing in at 4500kg, the world record-breaking hopeful features a custom body that's far more aerodynamic than a regular truck's. Engineers also had to incorporate huge air intakes to feed the powerful diesel engine.
The world land speed recording-breaking run, verified by FIA, will be revealed on August 24.
It’s thought the target for Volvo was to beat the 368km/h record set back in 2006 at Bonneville by a modified 1997 Freightliner diesel-powered truck.
It's not the first time the Swedish truck maker has released viral videos to promote its vehicles.
Recently it released a video of one of its FH16 rigs pulling an incredible 750 tonnes and before that released a humorous video featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme doing the splits to demonstrate the precision of its trucks' Dynamic Steering.
