Fledgling car maker shows new Air pure-electric prototype hit its limited top speedSilicon Valley-based Lucid Motors has released a new video of its Tesla Model S rival hitting its limited 350km/h top speed at a private test track in Ohio in the US.
In the short video the firm's new sedan, called the Air, is shown rapidly accelerating to its top speed in tests, that engineers claim, were carried out on the late prototype vehicle to evaluate its high-speed stability and thermal management.
In the US, it's already been announced that the entry-level 300kW Air that has a 386km range will go on sale in early 2019 and be priced from US$52,500 (A$70,000) before US tax credits.
The car that clocked the 350km/h, meanwhile, comes with a mightier 1000hp (736kW) and a range of more than 640km.
It's not been disclosed how much the more powerful variant costs.
Lucid has announced it is taking US$2500 deposits for the Air and says it plans to build around 10,000 cars in its first year of production.
Developed by a team of more than 300 employees, many of whom previously worked for Mazda and Tesla, when it goes on sale the Air will also come with autonomous driving aids.
