VIDEO: Watch McLaren P1 LM break records

Brit hypercar proves potency at Goodwood Festival of Speed by robbing Nissan GT-R NISMO of 'fastest up the hill' accolade

Goodwood Festival of Speed organisers have released new footage of the McLaren P1 LM beating the course record up the hill at last weekend's annual motorsport gathering.

Setting a time of just 47.07 seconds, the P1 LM was an incredible 2.2 seconds faster than the next road car in its class, Nissan's GT-R NISMO.

With a massive power advantage thanks to the P1 GTR-sourced 736kW twin-turbo petrol-electric V8, huge downforce package and Swedish racer Kenny Brack behind the wheel, it was perhaps inevitable the less powerful, heavier Nissan coupe would be beaten, but from the video, you can see it was far from an easy task.

With monumental power and torque to deploy, Brack puts on a masterful display of car control and oversteer management as the P1 climbs up the tight, narrow course.

Revealed last week, the LM version of the P1 has actually been created by former McLaren F1 race team Lanzante Motorsport, with the blessing of the British hypercar maker.

Weighing 60kg less than the track-only P1 GTR racer, the LM is completely road legal and boasts a 'high-downforce' aerodynamic package that helped Brack deploy an unfeasible amount of power for the record attempt.

Lanzante has announced it will convert just six P1 GTRs to LM specification.

Each will cost around £3 million (around $5.5 million at current exchange rates).
