VIDEO: Watch MINI Electric tow a plane in new teaser

British car-maker previews pure-electric MINI Electric Cooper SE with impressive stunt for a small car

MINI has teased a new video that demonstrates the might of its MINI Electric by releasing a clip of the battery-powered hatch pulling a Boeing 777F freight plane.

The stunt, performed recently at Frankfurt airport, is said to be just one of many 'activities' the British car-maker claims it has produced to pave the way for the launch of the zero-emission MINI Electric.

Partnering with Lufthansa Cargo, in the full unreleased video stunt involving the MINI Electric, the diminutive hatch will be shown successfully pulling the aircraft that has an unladen weight of 150 tonnes.

MINI has already announced that production of the MINI Electric is scheduled to begin at its Oxford plant this November more than ten years since the brand first began experimenting with a battery-powered hatch.

To cut costs the little electric MINI, that will make its debut in November, will share its electric motor and lithium-ion pack with the BMW i3.

Thanks to next-gen battery technology the pure-electric MINI is likely to come with a range of at around 300-400km.

Rumours suggest the small hatch could pack a big punch, with the range-topping MINI Electric Cooper SE versions coming with the same 135kW/270Nm electric motor as the BMW i3 S, suggesting a 0-100km/h time of less than 7.0 seconds.

This will help MINI market its zero-emission Cooper SE as the world's first pure-electric hot hatch.
