VIDEO: Yamaha experimenting with robo riders

Motorbot capable of beating MotoGP racer, Valentino Rossi, round track, will boost rider safety

Yamaha has released an incredible video of a new robotic motorcycle rider that said to, in the future, be capable of riding a MotoGP bike faster than the professionals - presumably without punting another rider off the track while it does it.

The new autonomous motorcycle-riding humanoid robot has been built to currently lap an unmodified motorcycle on a race track at speeds of in excess of 200km/h. The reason, says Yamaha, is the complex task of developing a robot that can control a fast bike at speed that can be applied later to the creation of greater advanced rider safety and support systems - including self-riding motorbikes.

Yamaha isn’t the first company experimenting with self-ride technology, Google has applied to the State of California to ask permission to test an autonomous motorcycle called the Ghostrider.

It’s only a matter of time then before James Cameron’s Harley-riding Terminator becomes reality.
