Vintage 1950s Toyota LandCruiser up for grabs
Shannons set to sell classic FJ40 LandCruiser for more than $20,000The current Toyota LandCruiser has proven itself to be capable both on and off the road, while the FJ40’s spiritual successor, the Toyota FJ Cruiser, is bubbling with personality and confidence. While both these Toyota off-roaders are very good, they aren’t the original.
This is a vintage 1963 Toyota FJ40 LandCruiser, a genuine Australian automotive legend, known for its off-road prowess and dependability. The entire LandCruiser line of descent built its famous reputation on the back of the FJ40.
The best news is? This one is up for sale.
Carefully restored – and supposedly mechanically accurate – this FJ40 is among one of the earliest LandCruisers to be sold in Australia, having been imported by then-Australian Toyota distributor Thiess Brothers from 1958.
The FJ40 LandCruiser up for sale sports a 3.9-litre six-cylinder engine, three-speed column change-gearbox, a low-range transfer case, front and rear differentials and radiator, which are believed to be all original.
That would mean the mechanicals on this car are over 40 years old! And Toyota says the Hilux is unbreakable...
The two-tone green paintwork, featuring the signature white roof, was restored by the third, and current, owner of this classic Cruiser. Other goodies on this FJ40 include original 15-inch steel rims, replacement rear axles, re-upholstered seats (in their original classic pattern, of course), a near-new workshop manual and its original ignition key.
Due to the classic nature of the vehicle, as well as its condition given its age, Shannons is expecting the FJ40 to sell for upwards of $20,000. A rare collector’s piece, we can’t see any reason why it won’t.
