Single-cab variants of the recently released Volkswagen Amarok aren't due to hit showrooms for almost a year, but our spy photographers at Carparazzi have snapped these images of the chunky commercial testing on home ground in Germany.
The prototype shows a thinly disguised single-cab Amarok sporting generous cabin space, its B-pillar pushed further aftward for more room behind the seats. Not only will the cabin be impressively proportioned, but Volkswagen says the two-door Amarok will also feature the largest tray in its class. Watch out HiLux!
Rumours point to both petrol and diesel versions of single-cab Amarok -- similar to dual-cab models -- though it's likely at this point an automatic transmission model will lead the charge from launch, possibly mated to a flex-fuel 2.0-litre petrol engine aimed specifically at the Brazilian market.
Like its crew-cab sibling, the single-cab Amarok will also be offered in both 4x2 and 4x4 guise, the latter gaining traction from VW's latest version of its famed 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.
Australia will see the first dual-cab Amaroks arrive in showrooms from Q3 this year, while the single-cab model is slated for international release in early 2011. It's tipped the two-door variant of VW's beaut ute will not arrive Down Under until late next year.
