Volkswagen Australia has confirmed a sub-$35,000 Tiguan has rejoined its ranks with the arrival of the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan 110TSI today.
Priced from $34,150, three new entry-level Tiguan variants will reach Volkswagen showrooms from September, marking the first time in 18 months that the German brand has offered any versions of its mid-size SUV with a price tag of less than $40,000, due in part to European production restraints.
The Tiguan 110TSI Trendline now anchors the line-up at $34,150, followed by the Tiguan 110TSI Comfortline ($38,650) and seven-seat Tiguan Allspace 110TSI Comfortline ($40,150).
Each employs a 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that drives the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
In entry Trendline specification, the 110TSI packages 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8.0-inch centre touch-screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reversing camera, front and rear parking sensors and black roof rails.
The base model’s safety suite comprises low speed autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian monitoring, lane keep assist, automatic halogen headlights and wipers and driver fatigue monitor.
There’s also an optional $1700 ‘Drive Assistance Package’ which bundles additional features including rear-cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, emergency assist, traffic jam assist and electric folding mirrors.
Next, the middling 110TSI Comfortline variants adds dynamic LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, hard-wired satellite navigation, keyless entry and start, three-zone climate control, overhead storage and chrome detailing.
The Comfortline is available with the aforementioned ‘Driver Assistance Package’ along with a ‘Sound and Vision Package’ that adds ambient interior lighting, premium sound and a digital instrument cluster (active info display) for $3200.
There’s also a $4000 option for the Luxury Package, bringing Vienna leather-appointed upholstery, electrically-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function, heated front seats and sliding and tilting glass sunroof.
The new Tiguan 110TSI range goes on sale from this month, joining the rest of the Tiguan line-up.
This low-end pricing will give the brand more scope to take on top-sellers in the medium SUV segment, such as the Mazda CX-5 (from $31,770 with an automatic) and the new Toyota RAV4 (from $32,640 auto), which has gone up in price in new-generation form.
