Having already axed Golf wagon variants, VW Australia will trim its local Volkswagen Golf range even further by dropping the base model from our market.
Citing customer preference for higher model grades, Volkswagen says the Golf 110TSI – currently priced from $36,290 plus on-road costs – will be deleted from the incoming Model Year 2024 (MY24) line-up, leaving the Golf Life to open the range.
MY24 Golf pricing is still to be announced, but the Life currently opens at $38,590 plus ORCs.
“The overwhelming majority of Golf customers select the Life, R-Line, GTI or – when available – R model grades,” a VW Australia spokesperson said.
“Reflecting these customer preferences, this now means each model line in the Volkswagen passenger vehicle range will commence with the well-equipped Life model grade or higher.”
The move will bring the Golf range more into line with other key models in the local portfolio, which are opened by the Life trim level – Polo, T-Cross and Tiguan.
VW has also announced that the mid-series 2024 Volkswagen Polo Style light hatchback will regain side assist with rear traffic alert (dropped last year) and also pick up a proactive occupant protection system.
Meantime, the top-spec Polo GTI and the T-Roc R-Line small SUV will both score physical buttons on their steering wheel in place of the current haptic units.
Pricing for the 2024 models will be announced closer to their local launches in the closing stages of the year.
