Volkswagen Golf GTI Edition 35

Volkswagen will celebrate the 35th anniversary of its legendary Golf GTI with a special limited edition model to be offered under the "Edition 35" label

Continuing a long theme of anniversary models, the latest iteration is said to combine classic GTI elements with a number of features specially created for the Edition 35.

A revised front bumper, "35" decals, etched sill panels and embroided headrests and seat centre panels designate the model from its standard siblings, while new owners will also receive a special "high end" metal key ring.

Outside, Edition 35 also lands piano black wing mirrors, bespoke Watkins Glen alloy wheels, updated headlamps (with LED daytime running lamps), and Golf R dark-tinted tail lamps.

But more than being a "sticker pack" car, Golf GTI Edition 35 also receives a handy power increase, which will be music to the ears of hot hatch enthusiasts everywhere. The total output from the turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder rises from 155kW to 173kW.

Volkswagen will officially unveil the model at this year's GTI meet at Wörthersee on June 1, the car set to take the stage alongside other models from the GTI back catalogue including Edition 20 and Edition 30, before being revealed to the press at the MY12 Tiguan launch later in the month.

In Europe, the car will be priced from 30,425 Euros (A$40,428), but local pricing is still unconfirmed.

Australia will receive an as yet undisclosed number of Edition 35 GTI's in late September.
