Volkswagen ID.4 electric ute imagined
German car-maker’s first electric SUV rendered as a pick-up, sedan, wagon, GTI and ‘coupe’Within a day of the Volkswagen ID.4 making its world debut, talented digital artist KDesign AG has produced these cool renderings that imagine the ground-breaking electric SUV as a ute, sedan, wagon, GTI and ‘coupe’.
While that might sound far-fetched, the idea of a battery-powered compact pick-up offering up to 225kW of power and a 520km range sounds pretty good to us as a follow-up to the ID.4 SUV, which will be launched overseas in rear-drive form in early 2021 (priced from $US39,995), followed by a more powerful all-wheel drive version in mid-2021 ($US43,695).
And remember that Volkswagen’s ID EV family will grow beyond the ID.4, which should spearhead the ID assault in Australia within two years, and the smaller ID.3 hatchback to include at least five other electric models.
These are expected to include the ID.1 micro-hatch to replace the E-up!, the ID.2 small SUV to sit alongside the T-Cross, the ID.5 mid-size sedan, wagon and four-door ‘coupe’ previewed by the Vizzion, Space Vizzion and Crozz II concepts respectively, the ID.6 large SUV previewed by the Roomzz and the Kombi-channelling ID.7 people-mover heralded by the Buzz show car.
While Volkswagen Australia is most keen on the ID.4 mid-size SUV, the larger ID.6 SUV will be the next VW EV to emerge, in 2021, and the ID.7 ‘Kombi’ is due the following year.
As we reported yesterday, no ID models have yet been officially locked in for Australia due to strong initial demand in Europe, China and the US, but Volkswagen Australia is targeting late 2022 for a local ID launch and by then VW will have produced the ID.3, ID.4, ID.6 and ID.7.
Hot GTX versions of all models are expected later on too, and the first performance EV from Volkswagen is expected to be based on the ID.5 coupe, which could look a lot like the four-door crossover rendered here (not to mention its sedan and wagon siblings).
An electric Volkswagen roadster has also been mooted, but hands up who hopes there’s an ID.8 ute in the plan too?
