Volkswagen Australia has launched two new variants of the Polo city-car, the aptly-named Urban and Urban+.
Replacing the existing Trendline and Comfortline variants within the current Polo range, the Urban and Urban+ will essentially bridge the gap between now and the arrival of the all-new sixth-generation Polo next March.
The Polo Urban has the same $16,990 drive-away price of the outgoing Trendline (manual price, automatic $19,490 drive-away) but adds $1500 worth of additional features, according to Volkswagen.
These include 15-inch Tosca alloy wheels, leather steering wheel, parking brake and gear shift knob, Multi-Function Display (MFD), illuminated vanity mirrors and Urban badging.
Sitting $3000 upstream of the Urban is the Urban+, which starts at $19,990 drive-away – the same as the outgoing Comfortline (automatic variant $22,490 drive-away).
The Urban+ adds $3000 worth of additional features, says the manufacturer, including 16-inch Portago alloy wheels, front fog lights, dark tinted windows, automatic headlights, driver fatigue detection, rain sensing wipers, and Urban+ badging.
Inside, the Urban+ boasts heated comfort sport front seats with Alcantara trim, climate control air conditioning, auto dimming rear view mirror, front foot well lighting and chrome and silver decorative trim highlights.
Both variants feature a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol four offering 66kW/160Nm in Urban guise and 81kW/175Nm in Urban+ trim.
A Drive Assistance Package is also available on the Urban+ for an additional $1800. It brings front assist with city emergency braking (automated emergency braking), adaptive cruise control, upgraded navigation system and front and rear parking sensors.
Beyond the new Urban variants, the sixth-generation Polo will arrive in March boasting new underpinnings, bigger proportions and ground-breaking safety systems. Full price and specification details of that model line will be revealed closer to launch.
