Volkswagen Australia has announced a new mid-range variant of its smallest and cheapest SUV, before the 2021 Volkswagen T-Cross CityLife arrives in showrooms next month.
Slotting between the entry-level Volkswagen T-Cross 85TSI Life ($28,390 plus on-road costs) and the range-topping 85TSI Style ($31,390 plus ORCs) that arrived in May 2020, the new CityLife variant is priced at $30,390 plus ORCs.
However, the third member of the Volkswagen Polo hatch-based T-Cross family will be a special-edition limited to 1000 units.
For $2000 more than the 85TSI Life on which it’s based, Volkswagen says the CityLife adds a host of standard equipment bringing more polish and functionality.
These include blind spot detection with rear traffic alert, comfort sport front seats, ‘Transition’ black-grey dashboard décor, tinted rear and rear-side windows, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry/start, foldable gloss door mirror covers and CityLife tailgate badging, plus unique seat trims and upgraded alloy wheels.
Two contrasting colour themes will be available. Bamboo Garden adds Black-Bamboo trim, larger 17-inch Manilla alloy wheels with a Black and Bamboo coloured surface, and Gloss Bamboo coloured door mirror covers.
The Black theme, meantime, comprises unique Black-Grey seat trim, Gloss Black mirrors and the same wheels but with a black and diamond-turned surface.
Like all Volkswagen T-Cross variants, the CityLife is powered by an 85kW/200Nm 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
Both colour themes will be available in a Pure White paint colour at no extra cost, while for an extra $600 Bamboo vehicles are offered with Limestone Grey Metallic or Deep Black Pearl Effect, and Black vehicles can be had in Reef Blue Metallic or Energetic Orange Metallic.
An optional $1900 Sound & Vision package adds Digital Cockpit, Discover Media navigation, Wireless App-Connect and Beats premium audio.
All new Volkswagens come with five-year/unlimited-km warranty, 12 months of roadside assist and the option of capped price servicing.
