The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace line-up will get a punchy and practical new addition come August when the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Adventure lands in showrooms.
Priced from $51,990 plus on-road costs, the 162TSI Adventure loses the third row of seats in the long-wheelbase version of the Volkswagen Tiguan mid-size SUV and combines the extra cargo capacity – out to 760 litres with the rear seats upright – with a variety of off-road and camping-oriented additions including increased battery capacity and a 180-Amp alternator.
Volkswagen says this makes the special-edition perfect for adventurous weekends away, allowing more equipment to be taken – the cargo volume is the biggest ever offered in a Tiguan – and for camping accessories to be run off the car for longer.
The extra practicality is also enhanced by a new bash plate, direct tyre pressure monitoring and fire-trail-friendly 17-inch ‘Dublin’ alloy wheels which allow for a taller tyre profile to be fitted in the name of grip, ride comfort and a mild off-road capability.
It doesn’t extend to a fifth wheel, however, leaving a space-saver spare to suffice in the event of a puncture.
The Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace Adventure is powered exclusively by the higher-output 162TSI 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 162kW and 350Nm of torque, driving all four wheels through a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.
Despite the more rugged intentions, Volkswagen has curiously fitted the Adventure with sports suspension that it says will maintain the Allspace’s “dynamic handling” and “sports performance”.
All-weather floor mats are fitted in the front and rear compartment and three no-cost accessory packages can be specified to help buyers better tailor the special-edition to its more adventurous remit.
The distinguishing features/combinations of these packs are snow chains, side and rear sun blinds or a boot liner in conjunction with a loading protection plate.
Other standard equipment includes tri-zone climate control, tinted windows, heated front seats, automatic headlights/wipers, an 8.0-inch infotainment system, the IQ.Drive driver assist safety suite, a reversing camera and a digital cockpit.
According to Volkswagen Australia’s passenger vehicles brand director Michal Szaniecki, the Tiguan Allspace Adventure will deliver “unique appeal to Volkswagen customers by perfectly combining performance with practicality”.
“With the largest boot volume ever offered on a Tiguan, among the most power in the segment plus tough underbody changes, the Allspace Adventure caters to on- and off-road thrill seekers,” he said.
Exclusive to the Australian market, the 162TSI Adventure slots into the local range between the 132TSI Life and 162TSI Elegance variants.
Metallic paint is the main cost option at $900.
