Volkswagen Touareg Adventure returns

Flagship German SUV grows a bushy beard; new variant touted as 'most robust Touareg available'

The 2020 Volkswagen Touareg Adventure limited-edition has been confirmed for Australia and will arrive in August priced from $90,990 plus on-road costs.

Based on the Volkswagen Touareg 190TDI Premium ($86,790 plus ORCs), the Adventure variant is billed as a the most rugged version of the big new German luxury SUV, thanks to the fitment of extra underbody protection and two new off-road modes – sand and gravel.

The $4200 price premium over its donor car also adds things like a larger 90-litre fuel tank, 360-degree area view camera system, Adventure badging and roof bars for optional accessory packs.

The full list of extras features is as follows:

  • Additional Advanced Offroad settings: Gravel and Sand
  • Additional engine underbody protection
  • 90-litre fuel tank (+15L)
  • Area View, Park Assist Plus and Manoeuvre braking
  • Roof bars with optional accessory packages
  • Adventure badge
  • Choice of two-tone Savona leather interiors (Atacama Beige or Florence Brown)
  • Open-pore fine grain ash wood trim in dashboard and doors
  • Direct Tyre Pressure Monitors show tyre pressure in the infotainment screen
  • 19-inch Esperance alloy wheels
  • Four-wheel steering
  • Memory for mirrors, front seats and electric steering column

Sechura Beige Metallic and Pure White exterior paint colours can be paired with the beige interior, while Silicone Grey and Deep Black Pearl Effect are offered with the brown interior leather finish.

The Volkswagen Touareg Adventure comes with all the luxury and technology trimmings you’d expect of a German luxury vehicle – except the Active Info Display and head-up display which are available as part of the optional and pricey Innovision package ($8000).

The Innovision pack adds a 12.3-inch digital display, a large 15-inch infotainment touch-screen system along with a head-up display, adjustable ambient LED cabin lights, a volume scroll wheel and gloss-black centre console.

Other options include metallic and pearl effect paint jobs ($2000) and two specialised ‘Adventure’ packs.

Adventure pack one ($2790) adds a tow bar, a compartment tray in the boot plus front/rear mud flaps. Adventure pack two ($4125) also adds a tow bar and boot tray, but also side steps and all-weather rubber floor mats.

Buyers will also get 10 per cent off roof rack accessories such as a bike/surfboard/kayak carrier and ski/snowboard carrier.

Powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel (190kW/600Nm) pumping through an eight-speed auto, the Volkswagen Touareg’s maximum braked towing capacity is 3500kg and claimed fuel consumption is 7.4L/100km.

Unlike the Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI, a permanent variant that will crown the local range late this year, only 150 versions of the Volkswagen Touareg Adventure will be available in Australia.
