GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI to debut

Volkswagen's new SUV flagship lifts powerful diesel donk from Audi SQ7

Volkswagen has confirmed it will launch its 250km/h Volkswagen Toaureg V8 TDI at the Geneva motor show next week.

Claimed to be capable of accelerating to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds, the Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI isn't the fastest VW-branded SUV of all time, as it matches the performance of the recently revealed VW T-Roc R SUV.

Key to unlocking the incredible performance on tap, the Volkswagen Touareg V8 TDI borrows its 4.0-litre triple-turbo V8 from the Audi SQ7.

Under the bonnet, the Touareg V8 TDI produces 310kW and 900Nm of torque -- the last figure matching the sports-car humbling Audi SUV, although the SQ7 manages to punch out 320kW -- 10kW more than the VW.

On sale in Europe towards the end of May, the flagship Touareg V8 TDI is uncertain for a Down-Under debut. In fact, it's not known whether it will even,be made for right-hand drive markets.

If RHD production does take place, the most powerful VW SUV ever gets standard air suspension, LED matrix headlamps, night vision, a premium leather interior, a power tailgate, special 'comfort' seats and larger 19-inch alloy rims.

Finally, shrugging off its size and imposing kerb weight the Touareg V8 gets the Audi-developed active anti-roll bars and four-wheel steer for extra agility.

Pricing is expected to be announced following its Geneva unveiling.
