Volvo has settled on the Garmin nüvi 3790 as a satellite navigation option for the company's passenger vehicle range.
Introduced with the S60 and V60 models, the nüvi 3790 docks in the driver's windscreen pillar, but is also readily removed from the car by the driver.
"The Garmin nüvi 3790 is less than nine millimetres thick, which is about the same as an ordinary pencil," said Jonas Nilsson, Director, Volvo Cars Accessory Business Unit. "Positioned at the driver's windscreen pillar, the touchscreen is easy to view and operate. The unit is also easy to bring outside the car. It even remembers where you parked,"
"The position and navigation unit meets Volvo Cars' stringent safety demands. The speech recognition allows the driver to keep both hands on the wheel. All he or she has to do is to wake the navigator up with a customisable voice command and speak menu options displayed on the screen," Nilsson added.
The unit features a glass capacitive touch screen utilising multi-touch capabilities far beyond just the classic push-to-zoom function. All in all, there are ten convenient multi-touch commands. Major buildings and points of interest are displayed in 3D to enhance overview. In junctions, the driver is conveniently guided to the right lane at the right time.
The nüvi 3790T includes a lifetime subscription to the SUNA traffic channel and myTrends to predict your regular routes and get you where you're going fast. Using Traffic Message Channel (TMC) radio data technology, the navigation system will let the driver know if there are traffic disturbances on route and recommend an alternative.
For Volvo Garmin added the additional unique feature of a Volvo start-up logo and Volvo workshop locations displayed.
In Australia Garmin recommends a retail price of $549 for the nüvi 3790T unit.
