Volvo takes aim at 'RS' badged hot hatches

Audi RS 3 and Ford Focus RS in Volvo’s gun sights as Swedish marque plans 240kW V40 mega-hatch
AutoExpress is reporting that Swedish manufacturer Volvo has Audi’s RS 3 and the Ford Focus RS on notice.
No longer content with its beige brand image, Volvo is reported to be considering a hot ‘Twin Engine’-powered V40 it says could make as much as 240kW.
The supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder engine, sourced from the upcoming XC90 T8, combines petrol power with a 60kW electric motor, and should give the V40 mega-hatch a 0-100km/h time of under six seconds.
Chassis tweaks courtesy of Polestar will help keep rubber to the road, and like the V60 Polestar, the V40 version is likely to feature Brembo stoppers and Ohlins adjustable dampers.
The report says Volvo is unclear about the possibility of all-wheel drive owing to weight and cost concerns. Though with a Haldex arrangement already hinted on Volvo's 2010 C30 Polestar Concept, it’s certainly a possibility.
