Volvo teases mysterious new concept

Volvo has used its Facebook account to preview what appears to be an advanced new concept car called the 360c.

According to rumours, the new show car will preview both the Scandinavian car-maker's forthcoming pure-electric powertrains and demonstrate its Level 4 autonomous driving tech that's set to be introduced in 2021 on the next-generation XC90 SUV.

If true, the concept will be capable of driving itself without any interaction from its human occupants for short urban journeys or trips on the highway.

Meanwhile, it's thought the car-maker's first pure-electric vehicle will arrive in late 2019 or early 2020 – but it won't be badged 'Volvo'.

Instead, the battery-powered small SUV-coupe will be sold by the car-maker's premium brand Polestar.

Set to go head-to-head with cars like the Audi e-tron and Jaguar I-PACE, the Polestar 2 is rumoured to come with 300kW of power while offering a range of more than 560km.

Keeping development costs down, the Polestar 2 will share much with the Volvo XC40, including its platform.

In Europe, the Polestar 2 will be priced between around $A54,000 and $A90,000.
