Volvo has teased its new Concept XC Coupe ahead of its January reveal in the USA, providing an early look at the Swedish car-maker's long-awaited second-generation XC90 due for release in 2015.
Although not yet fully revealed by Volvo, the car-maker has shown off the seven-seat luxury SUV replacement's angular new headlights, long bonnet and creased rear quarter panels leading to a squat, wide rear-end in new images and a teaser video.
The Volvo Concept XC Coupe's sporty, athletic shape appears to be gunning for the title of best-looking SUV, which is subjectively held by the Range Rover Evoque.
Much of the design is expected to be carried over to the upcoming Volvo XC90 which was partially leaked in August, including its T-shaped headlights and stylised rear-end.
The Concept XC Coupe is the second of three designs to be released under Volvo Car Group's new design direction, led by Senior Vice President of Design, Thomas Ingelath. The first design, the Volvo Concept Coupe, was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show and was well received for its striking, emotional design.
Built on Volvo’s new Scalable Platform Architecture, which will form the underpinnings of all future medium and large cars for the company, Volvo hopes the new XC90 will help shed its staid image in favour excitement and emotion.
