Volvo has teamed up with some of Sweden’s biggest online retailers to offer an in-car delivery service it first proposed about 18 months ago.
The new service works by using software devised by logistics company, PostNord, to facilitate toys, gifts, food and drink being delivered directly to your Volvo using geolocation software.
Once PostNord finds your car, it is able to gain access to your boot using a one-off digital key. A notification through an app on your smart phone then lets you know when your shopping has been delivered.
So far only residents of Gothenburg in Sweden who subscribe to the Volvo On Call internet service are eligible for in-car deliveries but the car maker claims it will roll out the service to other Swedish cities and other countries once Volvo has formed partnerships with local logistics and online retail outlets.
Volvo hopes the in-car delivery service will take the stress out of shopping and save its customers from having to wait around all day for a parcel to be delivered.
