Volvo's first Oz V8 set for November
Volvo's revised XC90 is on its way to Australia... And yes, it will be available with a V8The latest version of Volvo's XC90 SUV will create history for the brand when it arrives later this year. And it's a relatively un-Swedish bit of history to boot -- the first V8-engined factory Ovlov to hit local roads.
Rated at 232kW/440Nm, the 60-degree 4.4-litre V8 claims better power and torque outputs than the previous top performing XC90, the turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol T6.
Volvo also says it's the first V8 in the world to exceed the California Air Resources Board's ULEV2 emissions standards, requiring 13.5lt/100km for a combined cycle.
The big seven-seater has a five-star NCAP rating and is fitted with stability and traction control system,s Volvo's Roll Stability Control (RSC) and Roll Over Protection System (ROPS) and curtain airbags for all three rows of seats. The company's Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS) and Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) are also standard.
The 4.4-litre V8 is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and can manage 0-100km/h in 7.3sec.
The XC90's standard-fit list includes a premium sound system, leather upholstery, 18-inch 'Camulus' alloy wheels, interior air quality system, rain-sensing windscreen wipers, heated front seats and laminated side security glass.
Volvo Australia expects the XC90 V8 in local showrooms by November. Prices start at $84,950.
