Volkswagen has announced it will take the wraps off a limited-edition version of its compact Caddy people-mover at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney on October 18.
Designed to celebrate 30 years since the release of the first Caddy, the Caddy Edition 30 will make its local debut alongside the all-new up! city-car following its launch here next week, as well as the Passat Alltrack, which goes on sale in late October, and the new Beetle, which finally arrives here early next year.
However, the Volkswagen stand at this year's AIMS will not feature the redesigned (Mk7) Golf, which hits Australian showrooms in the second quarter of next year. Based on the short-wheelbase five-seater Caddy, the 30th anniversary people-mover is powered by the same 103kW 2.0-litre diesel engine seen in the Caddy Maxi Comfortline TDI320 (priced from $45,490), with which it also shares its six-speed DSG automatic transmission. Combined fuel consumption is a frugal 6.5L/100km.
At $37,990 plus on-road costs, the Caddy 30 is priced $8000 higher than the only other short-wheelbase Caddy currently available here – the 1.6 TDI250 Trendline (from $29,990) – and comes with a range of special features in addition to its larger and more powerful engine.
On the outside, they include a gloss black roof panel, 17-inch' ‘Budapest’ alloy wheels with black highlights, foglights, roof-rails, twin halogen headlights, painted bumpers and unique Caddy Edition 30 badging on the dual sliding doors, door sills and at the back of the vehicle.
Inside, the Caddy 30 is distinguished by two-tone Alcantara seat trim, a leather-clad steering wheel and climate-control air-conditioning. Like the standard Caddy, the 30 comes will a full complement of safety equipment, including ESP electronic stability control and ABS brakes with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and brake Assist (BA), plus twin front, head and thorax airbags.
