Volkswagen has celebrated the production of its one-millionth Scirocco model with the debut of the fittingly named Scirocco Million special-edition at the annual GTI festival in Worthersee, Austria.
To be available for order only in Germany and China from the end of May, the Scirocco Million is exclusively finished in Deep Black metallic paint and boasts a grey accent strip in the middle of the body.
It wears Galvanic Grey mirror caps and Interlagos 18-inch alloy wheels. Larger 19-inch silver-painted Lugano alloys are available optionally.
The Scirocco Million is also fitted with sporty R-Line front and rear bumpers, R-Line side sills, smoked tail-lights and ‘Million’ decals on the fenders. The rear windows are tinted to an almost solid 90 per cent.
On the inside, the Scirocco Million is decked out with a Vienna black leather steering wheel with contrasting Snap Orange stitch-work, a black roof liner, leather-clad park brake and gearshift boot, stainless steel pedals, brushed aluminium accents and ‘Million’ etched sill panels. A higher-spec RCD 310 audio system is also included as standard.
Depending on market, Scirocco Million can be ordered with a choice of three petrol (TSI) or two diesel (TDI) engines. These range in output from 90kW to 118kW and 155kW for TSI variants or 103kW and 130kW for TDI models. All are available with the choice of manual or dual-clutch (DSG) automated manual transmissions.
The first Scirocco was launched in 1974 and was superceded in 1981. This second-generation model enjoyed an 11-year production life and between the pair, 795,650 examples were produced. The Scirocco nameplate made a comeback in 2008 and in its five-year production life has totalled more than 204,350 units globally.
