Volkswagen has shocked show goers at the ‘Southern Worthersee' (SOWO) meet in Savannah Georgia with the unveiling of not one but five wild new concepts based on the Beetle, Golf and Jetta sedan.
Specially created for SOWO by Volkswagen USA, the new concepts are said to be inspired by the "diverse interests of VW enthusiasts", the car maker said.
That explains cars like the Beetle Post Concept that is said to have been created in cooperation with championship-winning BMX rider, Alise Post.
Picking a bright orange paint scheme, large 19-inch rims and lowered suspension, the modified Beetle also comes with a suction-mounted tailgate BMX rack.
Inside the boot, there's also a special racking device for the 26-year old female rider's front wheels.
The next concept sees a collaboration with long-time VW owner, and fan, Sam Dobbins who, along with VW USA, made the Golf GTI RS concept.
Looking like it was inspired by current Porsche 911 GT3 RS, the fast Golf concept features a wide body, stripped interior, race seats and a set of rims from Vossen Wheels.
Strangely, those race car looks are seemingly undone by the edition of a, no doubt practical, roof box.
Staying more faithful to the car it's based on, the Golf R Heritage concept keeps its narrow body but gains a paint job inspired by the German flag.
Larger wheels, from Vossen again, plus a lower sport suspension kit complete the subtle hatches modifications.
Even the sensible Jetta sedan got the aftermarket treatment for SOWO
The Jetta GLI Nardo Concept is claimed to have been created to be a stealth performance car.
Painted in Audi's Nardo Grey, the Golf-based sedan comes with larger HRE wheel and sports suspension. It's not known if VW USA indulged in any under bonnet tinkering to extract more power.
Finally, even the faux-rugged Golf Alltrack got modified for the SOWO.
Said to have been inspired by the original Golf Country that was based on the Mk2 hatch and sold in Europe between 1990-1991 - the Alltrack County Concept gets a high-lift suspension kit that raises the off-road VW's ride height by almost 51mm.
To help it avoid getting stuck in the mud the Golf Alltrack County also comes with 15-inch wheels and large BF Goodrich All-Terrain tyres.
Elsewhere there's additional fog lamps, a light bar - a roof-mounted tent (with solar panels) and a rear tailgate-mounted bike rack.
Inside, there's a large boot-mounted entertainment system that's powered by batteries in the tyre well that's charged by the roof-mounted solar cells.
Sadly, it's unlikely any of the five concepts stand any chance of making production, although some of the styling upgrades could be offered as official dealer accessories in the future.
