Consumers here will not be offered the R-Line trim level in the local Volkswagen Passat range, says Volkswagen Australia.
Kurt McGuiness, Public Relations Manager for the importer, told motoring.com.au today that there are "no plans" for the higher-specification model announced overnight in the UK.
Nor are there immediate plans to bring in the 1.4-litre TSI engine that was also announced overnight for the UK market. The smaller engine won't likely be missed in the local market – other than the possible cost savings it might bring at purchase time – but the R-Line package could be an opportunity missed.
Additional features fitted as standard to the Passat R-Line include what Volkswagen refers to as a 'bespoke' body kit, comprising revised bumpers, side skirts and a rear spoiler. Fog lights incorporate a static cornering function and the lower suspension (with ground clearance reduced 15mm) complements 235/40 R18 tyres on 'Kansas' alloy wheels. Bi-xenon headlights and LED tail lights are also fitted, as are Bluetooth, USB and iPod connectivity, DAB digital radio and a leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel (with gearshift paddles on DSG models).
Volkswagen in the UK is offering the Passat R-Line in different engine variants, including the 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine sold here, with the DSG transmission that is optional in the British market. Customers in the UK can expect deliveries of the Passat R-Line to commence next month.
