VW releases Amarok Canyon ute

Volkswagen has quietly announced the release of the limited-edition Amarok Canyon, just as we forecast in February.

Limited to just 200 examples, many of which motoring.com.au understands from dealer sources are already sold, the two Canyon models command a $6000 price premium over the Amarok TDI 400 and TDI420 4x4 dual-cabs upon which they’re based.

Priced at $56,990 plus on-road costs, the Amarok Canyon TDI400 comes with a six-speed manual transmission, while the Canyon TDI420 scores VW’s eight-speed automatic and costs $59,990.

Metallic and pearl-effect paint – including Deep Black, Reflex Silver and the exclusive new Copper Orange hue you see here – adds $490 to the price, while Candy White flat paint is also available.

Unique features include black gloss sports and side bars, 17-inch ‘Roca’ alloy wheels with Pirelli Scorpion AT-R tyres, an impact/solar-resistant load area coating, tinted tail-lights and special ‘Canyon’ rear and side decals.

Inside, the Canyon comes standard with two-tone Nappa leather seat trim with orange stitching, satellite-navigation and a reversing camera.

As we’ve reported, the Amarok Canyon was first revealed as a concept in 2012 before making its production debut at last year’s Sao Paulo motor show.

The concept was more radical, featuring 18-inch Roca wheels, a four-beam roof-top lighting bar, 40mm suspension lift kit and even power-deploying side steps.
