Vygor Opera is a Latin tragedy

We’re not sure which is worse… the name or the styling. The abomination you’re looking at here is dubbed the Vygor Opera, and it represents Italy’s latest crack at nailing the sports coupe-SUV crossover theme.

The Tuscany-based concern claims it will build and sell (good luck with that) 150 examples of the ungainly looking contraption, which allegedly offers “the comfort of an SUV and the driving pleasure of a GT”.

Pricing is yet to be announced, but we’re expecting each example will command an exorbitant outlay, for which customers receive a tailor-made vehicle, with powertrains ranging in output from 220kW to 295kW. All variants will come equipped with a full-time four-wheel-drive system.

According to its maker, the Opera is underpinned by a high-strength steel tubular frame, cloaked in bodywork fabricated from alloy and composite materials, helping keep its girth down to a sprightly 1500kg.

The whole lot rides on adjustable double-wishbone suspension, with wheel-tyre packages ranging in diameter from 18 to 22 inches.

The company’s flowery PR blurb gushes: “Opera is a pioneer of a new philosophy of cars that offers the comfort of a SUV and the pleasure of driving a GT, its shape is a perfect mix of harmony, elegance and sportsmanship: according to the best Italian tradition.

“Two equal Opera will not exist, as two equal people do not exist. The best of all motoring area together, to offer a prestigious product, strictly made in Italy, built according to the demands of the owner.”

Vygor is currently taking orders for the Opera (don’t all rush in at once), although a production date is yet to be announced.
